Blast from the Past
I ran into Makenna and Austin (neice and nephew of Suzanne that I use to be friends with)today at lunch at Jalapeno Tree. Suzanne and Aaron use to raise them. I hadn't seen them since Ronnie's 30th birthday party. It has been 3 1/2 years. I think about those 2 kids almost every day and wonder where they ended up and how they are. They were with their mom which is great news. Their mom's name is Jennifer and she told me that she has been sober now for almost 4 years and they have been living with her that whole time. Which is an absolute miracle. I am so glad that she got her stuff together. I told her that I was proud of her for that.
Makenna walked up to me at Jalapeno Tree and said "Are you my Aunt Graycie?". I lost it. I was crying, people were staring, but I didn't care. I wanted her to know how much she means to me and how much I missed her and Austin. I told her that I think about them both everyday, miss them so much, and love them even more. I gave her my phone number. I told her that she can call or text me whenever they want to or need to. I hope they do. I would love to spend some time with them. When they were leaving, Makenna started crying and didn't want to leave. Talk about a tear jerker!
It was so random seeing them. I wasn't even gonna be in Longview today. I was gonna go be in Dallas. Funny how things end up and how something good comes out of it. I am so glad that I saw them today. I wouldn't trade that for the world.
